In June

On June 24th, at the Athenaeum, Dr. Morris Rossabi of Columbia University delivered an illustrated lecture on the fabled Silk Road. The lecture drew well over 100 people. The audience was a healthy mix of locals and scholars attending the 18th annual conference of the World History Association.

We'd like to see more of this kind of mixed audience at the Salem Athenaeum.

Programs at the Athenaeum have grown both in number and quality in recent years. It's not only good for the Athenaeum, but good for the community and surrounding communities to have access to this rich cultural resource. If you're reading this and agree, please talk it up among your friends and associates.

The Summer Salon were a hit last year and promise to be interesting this summer.

The concept is simple. You gather around the presenter. Listen to a brief introduction to the topic and then take part (or simply listen) in a lively discussion of the topic. It's casual, relaxed and early enough so as not to interfere with your evening plans. They usually run from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. If weather permits they might take place on the rear porch.
